My favorite leadership was the potential myth. I liked his quote "I believe people should strive for the top of their game...not the top of the organization."
We've all seen people who get leadership positions, but are not accustomed to working at the top of their game and are therefore not very good leaders. No matter what position we have, if we strive to work at the top of our game opportunities will open for us.
I thought that was a very interesting myth myself. I enjoyed the part about the Monster.com ad that made fun of middle management. I remember watching that and laughing so hard! He also made some great points about knowing who you are and what you are good at. The example of Dick Cheney, and how he understands that his best role is as a behind the scenes guy or a support player was awesome! Not everyone is destined to be the President, or CEO. We need to work to our potential and maximise our strengths not our ego.
My favorite myth was #5 The Freedom Myth. Probably because that's what I thought before I had a bigger position. It's an important myth for all people on a team to know. Everyone thinks its so easy - I'd gladly give away some of those positions to people who think they could do them! It's a lot tougher than they think. If everyone learned about this myth then our jobs as leaders would be a little easier because we wouldn't have to justify every move we make. Thoughts?
