Sales Management 2.0

I keep hearing about twitter everywhere I go. It seems everyone is using it, and I am not sure what for. So here is my question... Do you use Twitter? What do you use it for?

I am thinking about starting a Sales Management 2.0 Twitter account to share a lot of things I do not necessarily want to blog about but are worth sharing. I also thought it could be a good way to promote new blog posts, popular forum threads etc.

What do you guys think? Is it worth the effort? or is it just one more thing to spend time on that could be better put other places?

I'm yet to be convinced about Twitter. Generaly speaking I block my time to do online marketing and social media work which may result in me writing a blog post or answering a question on Linkedin. I like the fact that this site and such sites like Linkedin are full of people who share some of my ideas and can really get their teeth into talking about issues. I'm just not sure whether Twitter would hold my attention past the initial thrill of joining a new social media phenomena. This is also the reason why I am not, and will never, be a facebook user.

I am experimenting with it right now... It seems good for sharing short blurbs like web URLs or insightful quotes you may not want to write a full blog post about. I trying it out as yet another media outlet for this site and to connect with my friends. I'll keep you posted on what I think. So far I am on day two!

I'm with you on Facebook... It is the social network I use the least...

I use myspace for connecting with friends and family, linked in for professionals, and facebook seems to be a hybrid. Mostly it just seems to be good for annoying quiz taking, and zombie fights.

Twitter has my attention right now though... It's interesting. I'll let you know if it can keep it.

After one week of twittering, I am totally addicted! My best advice for twitter is your experience will be greatly affected by who you follow. Follow great people and you will have a great experience. Follow a bunch of idiots and you will be left wondering why anyone would use such a useless service.

I currently follow 71 people and have 25 followers. Every day I get links to some of the best stuff on the net. Some of it very focused and professional, some funny, some just weird. but it is ALL good stuff. I have also started to develop a much deeper relationship with some of the bloggers I follow.

Anyone else here a twitter user or thinking about it?

Have finally been persuaded to join. Have been twittering for a few days. How did you find the right people to follow and how did you get people to follow you?

If you follow people most people will follow back...

It is also important to be active in the community. When someone like Guy or Scoble do a @tweet a TON of people will check out that profile to see who it is. If you have interesting tweets people will follow.

I started out using the search function looking for bloggers I like and also searched through my friends list to see who they followed. You will find some interesting people.

The best advice I can give to people is be a person not a corporation. Don just tweet that you have a new blog post... Tweet other people's articles, profound quotes, what your doing... Give people a little window into your head.

Twitter is fun and addicting. :)

Also put the widget on your blog and look for them on other peoples blog.

Once you have twitter under control ask me about friendfeed! :)

If I recall correctly the LA County Fire Dept was/is using Twitter as a backup emergency notification system. This is the one application that makes sense to me so far.

Wow! That is an interesting application. I have also read that some schools are planning to use it to share emergency info with students.

I posted this a while ago because I knew there were still a lot of people who did not know how to use twitter or what It is for. It just occurred to me to put this link in this thread today. I hope it helps some people. Twitter in Plain English.
